The Research Data Infrastructure Initiative (RDII) forms part of the Australian Government’s $20 billion Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF). $80 million over 8 years has been committed to the RDII and is targeting the creation or extension of national research data infrastructure.
The MRFF and related initiatives provide a long-term sustainable source of funding for endeavours that aim to improve health outcomes, quality of life, and health system sustainability.
ELIGIBLE ENTITIES:
- A medical research institute
- A university
- A corporate Commonwealth entity
- A corporation (including businesses and not-for-profits)
Joint applications are encouraged with an eligible lead organisation who is the main driver of the project.
THE INTENDED OUTCOMES OF THE RDII ARE TO:
- Align with the Digital Health Intelligence Priority to support Australian medical research and innovation projects that use novel methods to harness multiple data infrastructure types.
- Improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by developing new approaches for addressing unmet medical needs by:
- Supporting the synthesis, transformation, and generation of research data infrastructure; and / or
- Enabling novel methodologies and approaches that leverage and enhance research data infrastructure locally and nationally.
VALUE
A total of $10 million is available for this round in the 2021/22 year.
For an application, the RDII grant amount will be up to 100% of eligible project expenditure, up to a maximum of $3 million.
The grant opportunity will support projects with the following focus areas:
- Create or extend ‘research data infrastructure’ which includes clinical quality registers, biobanks, data collections, linkage platforms, data collection from wearables, use of artificial intelligence, and informatics.
