Summary of role
I work in the marketing department at RSM, where my role involves developing, overseeing and implementing campaigns as part of our overall brand building strategy.
The campaigns I work on combine traditional and digital marketing activities including organising events, coordinating advertising and PR activities, designing artwork for print and online channels, website content management, running social media channels, managing email marketing and reporting on analytics.
I work closely with a marketing consultant and we have regular meetings with an industry leading PR agency, Partners and other internal stakeholders, and team members from across the RSM global network to progress campaigns and ensure the successful execution of our strategy.
What’s been the highlight so far?
The variety of projects I get to work on is the biggest highlight of my job for me, there hasn’t been a dull moment so far! As well as being involved in a diverse range of tasks, I also regularly get the opportunity to work with people from across all departments within the firm, which definitely keeps things interesting. I'm constantly learning.
Some of my favourite projects to be involved in to date include designing new brochures and a Luas column ad that ran for several months, organising events including seminars, an International Women’s Day celebration and assisting with a corporate golf day, coordinating an RSM coverage report in a national newspaper, managing the firm's social media presence, and attending and covering the Irish Accountancy Awards 2018 where RSM Ireland won ‘Practice of the Year’.
What’s been your biggest challenge so far?
Adjusting to my new job was a challenge when I started at the firm, due to a combination of factors! A colleague was heading off on travel leave, and the marketing strategy for the year was just kicking off which meant the department was extremely busy. As well as this, it was my first time working in a professional services environment. Professional services marketing is notably different to any other industry, so I had to learn fast! Luckily the team was extremely welcoming and supportive, and I settled in very quickly.
What’s surprised you most about working at RSM?
How much happens around here! From a social angle there’s been loads - yoga, tag rugby, cycling and running clubs, charity volunteer days and company nights out.
From a marketing perspective, I didn’t expect the volume and variety of activities going on. The attitude towards marketing has also surprised me! The value of brand building is recognised as being key to continued growth of the business, and there’s an openness to new ideas.
What’s next for you at RSM?
My focus for now is leading more marketing projects and continuously learning from the industry experts I regularly work with.
What’s your top tip for someone looking to apply to RSM?
Be confident in your ability, but also be yourself in the interview. The RSM recruitment tagline is ‘personalities wanted’ and that’s genuinely true.
