Updated Stamp Duty Audit Framework
The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (“IRBM”) has recently issued an updated Stamp Duty Audit Framework (effective 1 January 2026), replacing the framework which was introduced a year ago (dated 1 January 2025). While the updated framework provides greater clarity on the audit coverage period, timelines and penalty provisions, it also signals a clear shift towards more active and structured enforcement.
Businesses are strongly encouraged to reassess their stamp duty compliance and take proactive steps in managing stamp duty obligations and requirements to mitigate any adverse impact which may arise from non-compliance.
