Our client is a world-leading provider of business sustainability ratings, intelligence, and collaborative performance improvement tools for global supply chains. Serving over 130,000 companies across more than 180 countries, businesses of all sizes rely on the company to comply with ESG regulations, reduce GHG emissions, and improve sustainability performance.

As the client continued expanding their presence in Southeast Asia, they needed to adapt their NetSuite environment to meet Malaysia’s statutory and regulatory requirements. To address this, the company partnered with RSM to implement Malaysia localization in its existing NetSuite OneWorld platform, ensuring full compliance while maintaining alignment with global business processes.

Challenges

As Malaysia introduced mandatory e-invoicing requirements, our client needed to ensure their NetSuite OneWorld environment could support the new regulations within a short timeframe. To meet this urgency, the company engaged RSM to deliver a localization solution tailored to their business size, operational scale, and immediate compliance needs.

While the client operated on a global NetSuite OneWorld platform, implementing Malaysia’s e-invoice requirements posed unique challenges:

  • Configuring NetSuite to meet Malaysia’s e-invoice standards
  • Ensuring real-time tax data integration without disrupting global processes
  • Aligning invoice formats with both local statutory and internal corporate requirements
  • Delivering a solution within a compressed project timeline to meet the regulatory go-live date

The priority was to enable full e-invoice compliance while preserving operational stability and ensuring readiness for future APAC localizations.

Our approach and results

RSM’s NetSuite specialists worked closely with the client’s finance and IT teams to:

  • Assess existing system configurations and design a Malaysia-specific e-invoice solution compatible with their global framework
  • Implement the required localization SuiteApp and integrate it with local tax authority standards
  • Customize invoice templates, tax codes, and reporting structures to ensure both compliance and consistency
  • Provide targeted training for the Malaysia finance team to ensure smooth adoption ahead of go-live
  • Deliver and test the solution, ensuring readiness before the mandatory start date

The client achieved compliance with Malaysia’s e-invoice regulations ahead of the mandated go-live date, while minimizing disruption to daily operations during deployment. The project delivered a scalable localization framework to support future country rollouts across APAC, ensuring that they are well-positioned to quickly adapt to evolving regulatory requirements in the region.
