We are pleased to share Issue 16 of our quarterly newsletter, "Kuwait Quarterly Newsletter: Economy & Projects Update.” This edition covers macroeconomic indicators, financial market trends, and recent developments across major sectors.

Key developments highlighted in Issue 16 are as follows:
 

  • Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) and the Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy (MEWRE) issued a USD 120 million contract for the Shagaya Z 400/132/11kV substation, supporting solar complex, with bids due by 5th August 2025. Request for Proposals (RFPs) are also open for two 1,100MW solar plants at Al-Dibdibah and Shagaya, with bids due by 14th September.
  • Kuwait’s MEWRE, through KAPP, reissued a tender for consultancy services for Phase 1 of the 3,600MW Nuwaiseeb Power and Water Plant; bids due by 12th August. The project, canceled in 2022, focuses on gas turbine supply, installation, and maintenance.
  • Ministry of Public Works (MPW) unveils a 2025-2026 strategy encompassing 66 projects, including roadworks, building renovations, new government and education facilities, and infrastructure enhancements such as a dual carriageway connecting Saad Al-Abdullah and Amghara.
  • Kuwat’s Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) submits three bids for Subbiya gas turbine Phase 2, with a 30-day review period. It also approved a KD 7.396 million (USD 24.3 million) contract for seawater RO desalination at Shuwaikh and initiated negotiations with seven firms for mobile wastewater treatment units.
  • Kuwait’s Mechanical Engineering & Contracting Company (MECC) secures a USD 70 million contract from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to install injection pumps at the Central Injection Pumping Facility, supporting Kuwait’s goal reach 4 million bpd by 2040 as part of a USD 30 billion upstream investment.
  • Kuwait’s Combined Group Contracting (CGC) won KD 31.9 million (USD 104.3 million) contracts with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to upgrade infrastructure, including a feeder trunk line at Umm Naqa and a gas export pipeline in western Kuwait.
  • Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) received bids for the SGC-2 project, with UK’s Petrofac offering the lowest at KD 422.45 million (USD 1.37 billion), more than double the KD 207 million budget but below Larsen & Toubro’s bid. The project involves installing a separation gathering center and debottlenecking work.
