ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard Country Reports and Assessment 2019 Has Been Published

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Corporate Governance Initiative, composed of the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard and assessment and ranking of ASEAN publicly listed companies (PLCs), is among several regional initiatives of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF). This initiative has been a collaborative effort of ACMF and ADB since 2011.

This report which was recently released in October 2021, assesses the corporate governance performance of 582 top publicly listed companies in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam using the revised ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS). Around 57% of the PLCs assessed had market capitalization of at least $1 billion. The average size of PLCs was $3.32 billion, with the largest having a market capitalization of $47.65 billion, and the smallest with $39.8 million.

This report was prepared by a group of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) corporate governance experts composed of Angela Simatupang (RSM Indonesia), Devanesan Evanson (Minority Shareholders Watch Group, Malaysia), Leonardo Jose M. Berba (Institute of Corporate Directors, Philippines), John Lim (Singapore Institute of Directors and the Centre for Governance and Sustainability of the National University of Singapore Business School), Kulvech Janvatanavit (Thai Institute of Directors), and Thinh Viet Nguyen and Hien Thu Nguyen (Viet Nam Institute of Directors). The ADB and the Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission jointly led the publication of this report.
