Google expands Gmail with AI inbox and enhanced writing tools
Google has introduced a major suite of AI-powered enhancements to Gmail. The centerpiece of the update is a new AI Inbox that reorganizes email into priority sections such as “Suggested to-dos” and “Topics to catch up on,” surfacing actionable items like bills, reminders, and important messages without manually browsing through emails. Gmail now supports AI Overviews in search, enabling users to ask natural-language questions about their inbox and receive concise, context-aware answers drawn directly from email contents. Core tools that assist with writing and managing messages including Help Me Write, enhanced Suggested Replies, and AI-generated thread summaries are being rolled out to all Gmail users, not just subscribers.

Understanding machine identity and why it matters in cybersecurity
Machine identities are digital credentials used to identify, authenticate and authorize non-human entities such as servers, applications, cloud workloads, devices and automated processes. These identities rely on digital certificates, cryptographic keys and secrets to enable secure machine-to-machine communication. As organizations adopt cloud, DevOps and automation at scale, machine identities now far outnumber human identities. If compromised, machine credentials can allow attackers to impersonate trusted systems, establish encrypted channels and access sensitive data without detection. Effective machine identity security focuses on visibility, centralized lifecycle management and policy enforcement to reduce risk and prevent outages. By applying least-privilege access, automated rotation and continuous monitoring, organizations can strengthen resilience, maintain trust across systems and support compliance requirements.

Malicious Chrome extensions steal ChatGPT and DeepSeek conversations
Security researchers at OX Security have identified a large scale malware campaign involving malicious Google Chrome extensions designed to exfiltrate data from AI chatbot sessions. The extensions present themselves as legitimate productivity tools that add an AI sidebar with ChatGPT and DeepSeek functionality and have accumulated more than 900,000 downloads from the Chrome Web Store. While delivering the advertised features, the extensions request permission to collect so called anonymous analytics data, which is then used to capture ChatGPT and DeepSeek conversations, browser tab URLs, and related metadata. This information is transmitted to attacker-controlled servers every 30 minutes and may include proprietary prompts, session identifiers, browsing activity, and internal corporate URLs. Users are strongly advised to remove these extensions and review installed browser add ons for signs of suspicious behavior.

Cybercrooks use HTML to hide QR code phishing in emails
Security researchers have identified a new phishing technique that allows threat actors to bypass QR code detection controls in email security systems. In this campaign, attackers embed QR codes directly using HTML tables instead of image attachments. This method causes the QR codes to render in recipients’ email clients while evading many automated scanners that look for malicious images. The QR codes appear visually normal to users and are often accompanied by text lures urging recipients to scan them to review or sign documents. If scanned, these QR codes direct users to phishing sites that harvest login credentials and other sensitive information. Researchers warn that standard image-based detection is insufficient to catch all malicious QR content, and users should remain cautious of unsolicited QR codes in emails.
