About Maksym Shutyi

Maksym Shutyi is an Advisory Partner at RSM Ukraine, responsible for the strategic development and leadership of the firm's Advisory practice. His areas of responsibility include tax and financial advisory services, including transfer pricing, international taxation, financial and tax due diligence, forensic services, accounting and financial reporting advisory, internal audit, business consulting, transaction support, as well as enterprise risk management and corporate transformation projects.

Under his leadership, the RSM Ukraine team delivers complex advisory projects for both Ukrainian and international clients, combining tax, financial, accounting and business expertise to address the most challenging strategic issues faced by businesses.

Maksym plays an active role in the development of RSM Ukraine's Advisory practice by expanding the firm's service offering, implementing RSM's global methodologies and ensuring the highest standards of quality and client service.

Experience

Maksym has more than 23 years of professional experience in advisory services, audit, taxation, financial consulting and corporate governance.
He began his professional career with the State Tax Service of Ukraine, where he spent eight years progressing from State Tax Inspector to Deputy Head of the Audit Department for Legal Entities. His experience within the tax authorities provided him with an in-depth understanding of tax legislation, tax audit procedures, financial and operational analysis of businesses, and tax risk assessment.

In 2010, Maksym joined Grant Thornton Ukraine, where he initially led the Tax and Transfer Pricing practice and subsequently assumed responsibility for the firm's overall Advisory practice. Over the following fifteen years, he led numerous large-scale advisory engagements for Ukrainian and international companies, covering corporate and international taxation, transfer pricing, tax structuring, financial and tax due diligence, forensic investigations, internal audit, accounting advisory, IFRS financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) support, as well as representation and support in dealings with tax, regulatory and law enforcement authorities.

Maksym has extensive experience in tax reviews and audit engagements involving financial statements prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Ukrainian National Accounting Standards. He has also led numerous projects involving financial advisory, business risk assessments, internal control framework design, internal audit, forensic investigations, business due diligence, corporate governance enhancement and business transformation.

His industry experience spans a broad range of sectors, including energy, oil and gas, construction, transportation and logistics, pharmaceuticals, financial services, asset management, information technology, advertising, tourism, manufacturing and other industries.

Maksym is the author of numerous professional publications on taxation, transfer pricing, international tax law and financial advisory. He is also a frequent speaker at professional conferences, industry forums and corporate training programmes for executives, chief financial officers, auditors, accountants and legal professionals.

Drawing on extensive experience gained in the public sector, international audit and multidisciplinary advisory services, Maksym applies an integrated approach to solving complex business challenges. His expertise across taxation, finance, accounting, internal audit, forensic services, due diligence and business consulting enables him to assess issues from multiple perspectives, identify the interdependencies between financial, tax, operational and regulatory risks, and develop practical solutions that create sustainable long-term value for clients. This multidisciplinary approach provides clients with additional confidence in the quality of the advice they receive, the robustness of the recommendations and the successful implementation of business solutions.
