An external quality assessment (EQA) is an independent examination of the internal audit function in terms of its compliance with the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) and best professional practices. It provides an objective evaluation of the effectiveness of the internal audit function, its impact on the organisation and the extent to which it supports corporate governance, risk management and the internal control framework.
