Interview with Philippe Cotleur, Partner in charge of Human Resources at RSM.
RSM: How would you define the RSM experience?
Philippe Cotleur: The RSM experience is a professional journey that adapts to each employee. It’s important that everyone finds their place. Conquering new markets, developing technical skills, taking on a team leadership role, transitioning from auditing to expertise, aiming for international exposure, moving from one region to another, even taking a break... everything is possible within a growing organization. We also have demanding clients with complex issues. The experience is as diverse as our teams.
RSM: What are your strengths?
P.C.: First and foremost, I would say enthusiasm, both in the diversity of missions and within the teams. Then, attentive listening. Our teams are what make RSM what it is and what it will become. It’s essential to engage them in the company’s vision and respond to their desire to evolve, each at their own pace. One detail that’s not negligible is that our offices are located in the heart of major cities. The employee engagement survey conducted last April confirms these three points. The work atmosphere, the diversity of missions, and an accessible hierarchy were highly praised.
RSM: What are your recruitment challenges?
P.C.: In 2016, we recruited over 200 people. Like in all audit, expertise, and consulting firms, our employees are not all meant to have a long-term career at the firm. Combined with a tight labor market and a fast-growing network, recruiting new talent pushes us to diversify our profiles and deliver training programs that help them develop their skills quickly. Whether they continue their career at RSM or choose another path, the people at RSM are highly employable in companies or are well-equipped entrepreneurs.
RSM: What are your upcoming challenges?
P.C.: Attract, develop, retain. RSM in France is a young network. We still need to work on our shared culture. We want to maintain a real policy of mobility, whether geographic or professional. Multidisciplinarity must exist for both our clients and our employees. We need to ensure that the brand is known and recognized so that everyone feels proud to be part of this exciting project. It must be big for everyone!
