RSM Studio Tributario e Societario and RSM Legal strengthen RSM's tax, legal and advisory services in Italy

With effect as from January 2022, RSM Studio Palea Lauri Gerla changes its legal name and becomes RSM Studio Tributario e Societario. This is not a simple renaming, but rather a further step in the path undertaken a few years ago and aimed at creating a professional firm strongly integrated within the RSM network, focused on internationally active mid-market customers, and based on organizational models, skills, specializations, processes and tools typical of a large international firm.

«The name change - explains Marco Giuliani, Chairman, Milan – was a kind of “due action”, an adjustment to the times and the current context of the tax, legal and advisory world. This is to lead us towards a business model that is immediately ready and suitable to meet the challenges of the future. For this reason, we have created an associative and corporate structure perfectly shaped on our objectives, separating some specialized services, including legal services and M&A».
«The vision of RSM Studio Tributario e Societario - continues Francesco Gerla, Managing Partner, Milan - is to become in Italy the leading firm in the provision of integrated professional services to mid-market corporate customers, who are part of multinational companies or who have an international vocation, as well as to private customers with interests in multiple countries. These are the customers to whom our motto "the power of being understood" best expresses our ability to understand their real needs and to provide them with high added-value, consistent and timely responses».
«The strategic plan of RSM Studio Tributario e Societario does not only provide for the reorganization and development of the service lines - states Fabio Lonardo, Managing Partner, Rome - but also the opening of new offices in other cities, besides the historical locations of Milan, Rome and Turin, a strong focus on digitalization and a growing sensitivity to ESG principles, both at the level of specialized consulting to clients and internally, with the adoption of new organizational and HR management models based on sustainability, equal opportunities, inclusion and corporate welfare».
«With 2022 a new chapter opens for us lawyers as well - declares Marco Carlizzi, Head of Legal Services in Italy and co-leader of RSM Legal Group at international level. The creation of a legal entity dedicated to legal services will strongly contribute to RSM's growth plan in Italy and we are confident that, with new partners joining RSM Legal STA and the growing synergy with our foreign colleagues, we will be able to broaden and deepen our legal skills, in a concept of “added value”, from corporate law to support for extraordinary transactions especially within corporate groups, from consulting on governance issues to bankruptcy law, from corporate criminal law to legal tech».

For RSM Studio Tributario e Societario, the new year represents the beginning of an ambitious three-year strategic plan that will consolidate RSM's Italian tax, legal & advisory services among the elite of the large firms and professional networks operating in our Country.

RSM Studio Tributario e Societario is the Italian firm specialized in tax, legal and advisory services and member of RSM International, a professional network with headquarters in London - UK. With an aggregate turnover of 6.3 billion dollars and a widespread presence in over 120 countries, RSM Studio Tributario e Societario occupies sixth place in the special ranking of the global networks providing professional services to companies.

The history of RSM International began in 1964, when a small professional association was founded in the United States of America under the name of DRM, acronym of the founders (Dunwoody, Robson Rhodes and McGladrey & Pullen).
In 1993, the organization was restructured and changed its name to RSM International, acronym for the three firms that gave new life and international reach to the original American project: Robson Rhodes (UK), Salustro Reydel (France) and McGladrey (US). In the following years Robson Rhodes was incorporated by Grant Thornton while Salustro Reydel merged with KPMG. McGladrey is still a member of RSM in the United States.
In January 2006, Jean Stephens became the first female CEO within the Top 10 professional networks operating globally.

The history of RSM Studio Tributario e Societario goes back a long way, since the 1960's, and is rooted in two professional firms in Milan (Studio Gerla Associati and MGP Studio Tributario e Societario) and one in Rome (Studio L4C) which represented respectively the excellence among the firms of certified public accountants at a local level. Initially, the strategic objectives were aimed at improving the quality of the services offered in tax, corporate and consulting matters for the SME market, both domestic and foreign, as well as the development of accounting services, also in the form of full outsourcing, for the Italian subsidiaries of multinational groups that wished to maintain management accounting at their headquarters and tax accounting in the countries in which they operated.
Later, in line with the decision to join an international network, the Firms concentrated on the specialization by service line and industry and focused on an internationally active mid-market clientele, with particular vigour after 2017 as a result of the network's decision to adopt the acronym RSM as Unified Global Brand and the related opportunity for individual firms to use such a brand in their own names.

At the same time, a project of aggregation of the three Firms in Milan, Rome and Turin took shape, aimed at establishing a unified national Firm not only from an organizational point of view but also in terms of legal entity. Consequently, at the beginning of 2018, the Firm changed its name to RSM Studio Palea Lauri Gerla, thus signalling the combination of the global brand and the national dimension.

While adopting the best practices of the network, both in terms of delivery models and processes and in the more specifically managerial aspects, the focus was on organic growth, driven by a resident marketing function, coordinated with the central marketing of the London office, and on aggregation projects with new subjects who were, by vocation, bearers of the same interests.
Hence the arrival in September 2020 of MGP, already part of the international network PKF, in the Milan structure of RSM. The number of partners and collaborators have increased, revenues have grown, skills have been consolidated and ambitions have multiplied.
