RSM Channel Islands 2025 work experience placements
It was great to welcome Finlay and Jason who joined our 2025 work experience placement scheme this summer.
The week was spent with structured sessions hosted by our team introducing them to some of what we do.
Finlay and Jason spent time with partners, managers and recent trainees who shared their different perspectives and experience. We spent time on everything from discussing RSM’s audit, accounting and taxation services, to looking at the compliance, cyber security, data protection and ethical environment in which we work.
We enjoyed showcasing what RSM does, and at the end of the week we caught up with Finlay and Jason to find out what they thought.
What attracted you to join RSM’s work placement?
Jason: Meeting Rachel and KongKong at the Life in Finance meet & greet session gave me a great feeling for RSM. I had done some research before on the opportunities and meeting them sparked my interest.
Finlay: When I found out about the placement scheme I thought it had a good overview of what an accounting firm does, and I was excited to have the chance to experience this in-person.
Are the roles you experienced this week something you would consider for the future?
Jason: Yes! I was interested before, and I’m more interested now.
Finlay: Definitely. This week has increased my enthusiasm to train as an accountant.
Did anything surprise you about the experience?
Jason: What surprised me the most was how much happens in an accounting firm, and the variety of experience involved in becoming a good accountant.
Finlay: I was surprised how interesting auditing is. I enjoyed how it uses information and knowledge from the other areas we looked at.
What did you enjoy the most?
Jason: Auditing was new to me and unexpected. I was surprised how interesting it is and how it can use my existing knowledge in new ways.
Finlay: It was all interesting and enjoyable. I really enjoyed the variety of sessions, meeting so many people and the insight this gave me into RSM and being an accountant.
We are really pleased Finlay and Jason enjoyed their experience with RSM. We enjoyed hosting them, and wish them both well with their remaining time at college and university, and the very best for their future career choices.
RSM Channel Islands supports Jersey Finance Limited's Life in Finance scheme, and we were delighted that Jason joined us through this programme.
