RSM welcomes Leah Morgan
RSM Channel Islands has enjoyed significant growth in recent years. To help that expansion continue we created a new Operations Manager role in 2025 and welcomed Leah Morgan to our team in the Autumn.
As an entirely new role, Leah was given the daunting task of taking the partners’ ideas and turning them into reality.
Phil Crosby caught up with Leah to discuss her experience of joining RSM and translating a broad and diverse job spec into a role that positively contributes to the firm and to her colleagues.
When you were looking for a new role, why did RSM stand out as a potential employer?
I was looking for a role that would allow me to broaden my experience beyond finance and become involved in a wider range of business operations. RSM stood out because of its strong reputation, people-focused culture, and commitment to continuous improvement. The Operations Manager role offered a unique opportunity to combine my financial background with responsibilities across technology, people, processes, and strategic projects. It felt like an environment where I could continue learning while making a meaningful contribution to the business.
How was your experience of the RSM interview, recruitment, and induction process?
My experience throughout the recruitment process was very positive. The interviews were professional but also welcoming, allowing me to gain a genuine understanding of both the role and the culture of the firm. Communication throughout the recruitment process was clear and timely, which made the experience smooth and engaging. The induction process was well structured and helped me quickly understand the business, meet my colleagues, and feel part of the organisation from an early stage.
How has RSM lived up to your expectations? What have been your highlights so far?
RSM has certainly lived up to my expectations. The collaborative culture and willingness of people to support one another have been particularly noticeable. One of the highlights has been the variety of work involved in the role; no two days are the same. I have enjoyed working on projects that improve processes and systems, supporting the business in areas beyond finance, and having the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that have a positive impact across the firm.
What has surprised you most about the role? How has your experience so far helped to develop your own knowledge and skills?
The scope of the role has probably surprised me most. Coming from an accounting background, I expected to expand into operational areas, but the variety of responsibilities has been even greater than anticipated. The role has given me exposure to technology, information security, people processes, project management, marketing and sustainability. This has significantly broadened my skill set and strengthened my ability to think strategically, manage competing priorities, and understand how different areas of the business work together to achieve common goals.
How are you finding the experience of taking your role from theory to reality?
Moving from the utilities sector into professional services was a significant career step for me, and I am grateful for the support I have received from colleagues across the business. The role has provided an excellent opportunity to expand my experience and contribute in ways that go beyond my original finance background. I am excited about continuing to learn, developing new skills, and supporting RSM’s ongoing success in the years ahead.
Now you have settled into the role, what are you most looking forward to in the next 12 months?
Over the next 12 months I am looking forward to continuing to drive operational improvements and helping the business become even more efficient and connected. I am particularly interested in further leveraging technology and automation to enhance processes, improve the colleague experience, and support business growth. I also look forward to continuing to develop my own leadership skills and taking on projects that create measurable value for both our people and our clients.
You have a personal interest in sustainability and have already improved our focus on this; what further easy wins would you like to implement in the next 12 months?
There are several practical initiatives that could make a positive difference without requiring significant investment. I know the firm has dramatically reduced its paper usage in recent years, and I would like to reduce this further through increased digitisation of internal processes and keeping printing to a minimum wherever possible. Beyond that, I would focus on simple measures such as continuing the trend of reducing single-use items in the office, making office purchasing more sustainable by choosing recycled or reusable supplies where practical, and encouraging energy-saving habits. I think it is important to keep sustainability realistic and measurable, and to make changes that colleagues engage with positively.
Living on an island, I also feel a strong personal connection to environmental issues such as ocean conservation, so I like to raise awareness among colleagues about how small everyday choices can have a wider impact and to share initiatives that they can chose to participate in.
