With over 40 key pieces of legislation at the fore, navigating your way through employment legislation and HR best practice in Ireland is not an easy task. As HR departments become increasingly under pressure to steer organisations away from risk whilst simultaneously trying to deliver programmes to drive performance and deliver change, HR departments can become stretched.

For smaller organisations, we understand that HR responsibilities may sit with non-HR resources with busy remits and finding the time to dedicate to HR matters can also be challenging.

Employment Contract

Employment legislation in Ireland can be complex with over 40 key pieces of employment legislation on the statute books. A cornerstone of Irish employment law is the provision of an employment contract. An employment contract must contain a number of mandatory clauses in order to comply with the Terms of Information Act 1994, but it is prudent to bolster a contract with a number of additional best practice clauses which may be derived from other pieces of legislation and case-law. Our specialist HR team will work with you to draft a contract of employment that will outline the specific legislative and best practice clauses which should be in place for an employee operating in Ireland.

Employee Handbook

An Employee Handbook is an effective way to communicate an organisation’s employment policies and procedures clearly and effectively, while ensuring that all procedures comply with employment law and best practice HR. A well-written employee handbook will help to mitigate against potential misunderstandings, conflicts and complaints. The contents of an Employee Handbook should address every major aspect of employment within the organisation and normally contains policies on recruitment, equal opportunities, performance management, annual leave and other protective leaves as well as providing mandatory information on disciplinary, grievance and anti-bullying and harassment procedures. Ideally an employee handbook should also contain information on the organisation’s background, its mission statement and its corporate values, and our HR Specialists can work with you to develop an appropriate set of policies and procedures to reflect same.
