As part of our series on the Central Bank of Ireland's (CBI) 2026 Regulatory and Supervisory Outlook, we have produced a practical paper examining the insurance sector and the areas where supervisory scrutiny is now intensifying.

Mid-year check: are insurers delivering on the CBI's heightened expectations for 2026? The paper explores where supervisory focus is now being applied in practice, with a particular focus on:

  • Customer treatment, product design and governance
  • Climate and ESG risk integration
  • Financial resilience, pricing and reserving discipline
  • Operational and cyber resilience, including DORA alignment
  • AI and digitalisation in underwriting and claims
  •  Solvency II reform and Insurance Recovery & Resolution Directive (IRRD) readiness

It also examines what insurers must now evidence in practice as supervisory activity intensifies across the sector. Practical actions are included to help firms strengthen governance, improve customer outcomes, embed climate risk, enhance operational resilience and prepare for significant regulatory changes taking effect from 2027.
