The theme of the recent RSM World Conference in Barcelona was “Our Future Starts Today” – it was a celebration of the foundations laid during the last 50 years and an exploration of building upon these foundations for our future. Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard wrote, “life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards”, and having spent some time recently looking back on those 50 years, it is clear how we got to this point – the twists and turns, the business deals, the changes in the economic climate, local and international politics, and the individuals involved. We cannot be certain what our future holds but reflecting on our global gathering last week in Barcelona, I believe it is very bright for RSM.
Nearly 300 international leaders from all corners of the globe attended the World Conference and together created a great deal of energy and positive atmosphere. The packed agenda included fascinating external talks from Javier Bajer, one of the foremost specialists in leadership performance and Olivier Boutellis-Taft, CEO of FEE, who shared his extensive knowledge in the accounting industry. We were also joined by Nelson Pires, the General Manager of pharmaceutical company Jaba Recordati, who shared his views on resilience and how it helped his company win the European Business Award for Employer of the Year 2013/14.
Other sessions were geared towards how we service our clients, their expectations and, importantly, how together we can continue to raise the quality of our services, both nationally and internationally. I was particularly delighted to welcome four global RSM clients who shared their views on adding value to their businesses, the importance of their relationships with key client servers and how RSM as a global international network is critical to their current and future needs as they grow their businesses.
The build-up to our World Conference is always busy but the pay-off is worth it – spending time with our RSM colleagues, strengthening long-standing relationships and building new ones – it is always a pleasure to be together. I am in no doubt that we have an exciting future ahead of us full of continued growth, quality and exceptional client service.
Finally, I must thank our friends and colleagues at RSM Gassó for hosting our conference this year - check out @rsm_world for more pictures and comments from our time in Barcelona!
