The Malta Chamber, together with the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner and RSM Malta, organised an information session to discuss the General Data Protection Regulation which comes into effect on the 25th May. 

Chamber Director General, Kevin Borg, welcomed the participants to the very well attended event, on behalf of the Chamber President, and thanked the Office of the IDPC and RSM Malta for collaborating to provide the business community with an opportunity to better understand the Regulation and how to prepare to meet its requirements.

The Commissioner of Information and Data Protection Mr Saviour Cachia together with Mr Ian Deguara, Director Technical Affairs, explained the Regulation and its provisions and how these need to be addressed. The presentation concluded with a series of Take Home Messages to help businesses identify and prioritise the actions needed to ensure adequate readiness.

The IDPC reiterated the Commissioner’s willingness to assist with advice and guidance.

Mr Gordon Micallef, RSM Malta Partner for Business & Technology Consulting Services, explained some of the main concepts and went over the obligations from a business perspective while giving some pointers on best compliance practices. Mr Micallef also provided the audience with the main points of an Action Plan for businesses to follow in order to come up to speed with the new regulation

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session where the speakers provided more detail to specific queries raised by the audience.
