The Malta Business Registry (MBR) has issued a Notice on the use of Electronic Signatures. It has been confirmed that electronic policies_training_documents_simple_grey.pngsignatures are possible for submission of documents with the MBR as long as they adhere to EU legislation. The prevalent law in this regard is Regulation (EU) No 310/2014, hereinafter “eIDAS”.

An accepted signature is a qualified electronic signature, meaning that it must be created by a qualified electronic signature creation device having a qualified certificate issued in an EU Member State. The list of approved eIDAS Trust Service Providers in the European Union may be accessed on https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/tl-browser/#/

Prior to submitting an electronically signed document to the MBR, one must verify the validity of the qualified electronic signature by uploading the document on https://ec.europa.eu/cefdigital/DSS/webapp-demo/validation.
