RSM doubles its presence in Highbrook

How we did it and why

Following the recent merger of Nexia New Zealand and RSM New Zealand, Grant Hally, Managing Partner of RSM New Zealand (Auckland) took the time to sit down and chat about our growth strategy and what we have achieved recently.

  • When did RSM come to East Tamaki?
"We opened our first office in East Tamaki about 20 years ago in Harris Road. Our goal was to provide business and audit services to growing manufacturing and distribution businesses in the South and East of Auckland."
  • Why did you come to the region?
"We wanted to better serve our existing clients in the region and saw great opportunities to serve new clients nearby. Easy access and parking were also a drawcard for our clients and our team."
  • Has the move to Highbrook benefited your business?
"Eight years ago we moved from Harris Road to Highbrook Drive and six years ago our city team joined us there. We are very fortunate to be in the financial hub in the area and have benefited from interaction with bankers, lawyers and all the growing businesses nearby."
  • Tell me about your audit team?
"At the beginning of 2015 our audit team merged with Hayes Knight Audit to become RSM Hayes Audit to give our audit team the critical mass to handle all the regulatory changes in the audit arena."
  • But how can you double your East Tamaki presence overnight?
"Last year we began discussions with the Nexia New Zealand team in Manukau. We found that our operations were very similar and decided to commence merger discussions. The result being that on 1 April both the Business Advisory Teams and the Audit Teams respectively merged. This doubled our Highbrook Business Advisory Team with the move on 25 July 2016"
  • How will this merger benefit your clients?
"Our clients will benefit from a bigger team with more capacity to provide timely value added services. They will also benefit from the expertise of nine Business Advisory Partners on site in Highbrook. This enables us to provide specialist services including tax and industry specialisations to a wide range of clients from small to large."
  • Will clients notice any change?
"Not really, clients will continue to receive the personal service that they enjoy now. We are big enough to provide a wide range of services but small enough to care."
  • How will you accommodate the extra team members?
"We have taken over the former ATEED premises in the Ford Building at 86 Highbrook Drive and initially two of our Business Advisory Teams will move to those premises."
  • What can we expect to see from you next?
"There will be a settling in period where our prime goal will be to continue the excellent service that our clients expect.  After that we will draw on our wider expertise to provide more specialised value added services to our clients."
