Dean Stevens

Partner, Auckland

Dean Stevens is a partner in the Auckland Office of RSM in New Zealand. He is a Qualified Chartered Accountant with commercial degrees in agriculture and farm management and accounting. He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business, majoring in finance.

His current clients cover a diverse range from not-for-profit organisations including local government public benefit entities through to multinational commercial businesses.

Having grown up on a dairy farm, Dean’s first role after university was with the Rural Bank and Finance Corporation before heading overseas. On his return, he worked with a large multinational corporate for ten years in a number of accounting and finance roles, leaving as financial controller. From there Dean moved into public practice finding that his commercial background enabled him to appreciate what his clients required.

In addition to his strong accounting and tax knowledge Dean also has an interest in investment and returns. He regularly completes business valuations for clients, as well as clients from other accounting firms. He also enjoys assisting in the assessment of businesses for acquisition and in commercial negotiations.

Dean has great admiration for, and is inspired by, his clients who put their heart and soul into their business or a worthy cause, creating something significant or making a real difference to people. He enjoys working closely with these people over the long term and helping them in achieving their goals by providing them with useful advice, timely information and taking away concerns that they might not be tax compliant or tax efficient.

Outside of his working life, Dean was an avid soccer player and is now a keen supporter of his two boys. In recent years, he has been competing in triathlons, cycling and ocean swimming events.
