Wei Chen is a Partner in RSM New Zealand's Auckland office and has been with the firm since 2004.

With a unique background spanning international business ownership, accounting and advisory services, Wei brings extensive commercial experience to his client relationships. Having operated businesses across China, Russia and Serbia before moving to New Zealand, he understands firsthand the opportunities and challenges faced by business owners. 

Wei is passionate about helping clients build stronger businesses through effective planning, robust systems and practical advice that supports sustainable growth and long-term success. 

Experience

Born and raised in Nanjing, China, Wei spent approximately 15 years working in international trade and commerce, including importing, exporting, retailing and wholesaling products such as food, apparel, timber, wool and tools. During this time, he successfully owned and operated businesses across China, Russia and Serbia.

After relocating to New Zealand in 2002, Wei embraced a career change and pursued accounting qualifications before joining RSM New Zealand in 2004. Since then, he has played a key role in developing and leading the firm's Asian Accounting Group in Auckland.

Throughout his career at RSM, Wei has developed extensive expertise in business planning, business process optimisation, accounting systems and operational system development. He has also been involved in numerous mergers and acquisitions and has helped businesses improve performance through stronger reporting, systems and internal processes.

Wei has a diverse client base and has worked with clients across a broad range of industries, including property development and investment, construction, professional services, e-commerce, retail and wholesale, and manufacturing.

Services for ultra-high-net-worth individuals on financial reporting, tax structuring, and compliance matters, including multi-jurisdictional investments and wealth structures.   • Accounting and Compliance - Providing accounting, financial reporting and compliance support. Preparing and reviewing IFRS-compliant financial statements for large multinational corporates, including China and Hong Kong-based groups, publicly listed entities, and large privately owned enterprises. 
  • Systems Development and Implementation - Assisting with the implementation of accounting, inventory, and procurement systems, including manufacturing costings, allocations, and analysis. 
  • Management Reporting - Helping businesses utilise financial and tax reporting to support informed decision-making. 
  • Mergers and Acquisitions - Supporting businesses through acquisitions, transactions and growth opportunities.
