As I sit down to write this, I can’t help but feel emotional. This journey has been anything but easy, and putting it into words brings back a flood of memories; some painful, some hopeful, all deeply personal.
Earlier this year, I faced one of the most difficult moments in my academic and professional life. I did not pass my first CTA attempt. I was shattered. It felt like everything I had worked so hard for had slipped through my fingers. I remember the moment I saw my results so clearly; it was heartbreaking. I questioned everything: my path, my abilities, my future.
But then, something unexpected happened. I received an email offering me the opportunity to begin my articles at RSM. That email felt like a second chance from God; a moment of grace that reminded me that failure isn’t the end. Sometimes, it’s a redirection towards something even more meaningful.
As Jean de La Bruyère once said, "Out of difficulties grow miracles."
Lessons Learned Along the Way
This journey has taught me more than just technical skills; it’s taught me about resilience, humility, and the power of perseverance. I’ve come to understand that not everything will go my way—and that’s okay. Life isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. The setbacks I’ve faced have shaped me into someone who can adapt, learn, and grow through adversity.
Balancing my second CTA attempt with starting articles has been challenging, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I’ve learned to manage my time better, prioritise effectively, and stay focused on the bigger picture. And yes, there are still days when I feel overwhelmed, but I remind myself that I’m doing this for a reason, and I’m not alone.
What inspired me to pursue a career in Accounting and Audit
From a young age, I was drawn to the structure and clarity that numbers provide. But it wasn’t just about crunching figures; it was the idea of uncovering stories behind financials, helping businesses stay accountable, and making informed decisions that truly excited me. Accounting felt like a profession where integrity meets impact, and audit gave me the lens to see how organizations function from the inside out.
How RSM is making this journey bearable
Joining RSM has been a game-changer. The firm doesn’t just offer a workplace, it offers a community. From flexible learning support to access to experienced professionals, RSM has created an environment where growth is nurtured. The culture here is one of encouragement, not pressure, and that’s made all the difference during this demanding phase of my career.
Support from colleagues and mentors
The support I’ve received from my colleagues and mentors has been nothing short of incredible. Whether it’s a quick check-in, a shared resource, or a pep talk before a deadline, I’ve felt genuinely seen and supported. What stands out most is the willingness of others to share their own journeys; their wins, their failures, and lessons. It’s made me feel less alone and more empowered to keep going.
Key milestones and achievements
One of the most defining milestones was receiving the offer to begin my articles at RSM after not passing my first CTA attempt. It was a moment that reminded me that grace exists even in failure. Another is successfully balancing my second CTA attempt while doing my articles; a feat that tests my limits but proves my resilience. Each achievement, no matter how small, has reinforced my belief that I’m on the right path.
Moving Forward with Gratitude
I’m incredibly grateful for this second chance. It’s reminded me that setbacks don’t define us; our response to them does. I’m now more motivated than ever to succeed in my CTA journey and make the most of every opportunity at RSM.
To anyone who’s faced a similar challenge: don’t give up. The road may be tough, and the emotions may run deep, but every step forward is a step towards becoming the professional and person you are meant to be.
This journey is far from over, but I’m walking it with more clarity, strength, and gratitude than ever before. And with the support of RSM and the incredible people around me, I’m not just surviving this journey, I’m growing through it.
