Accountant: Independent Reviews and Compilations

We are currently looking for an Accountant: Independent Reviews and Compilations for our Cape Town or Johannesburg office. This role falls within the Assurance Department and reports to the relevant Director. Below is a guideline of the role and responsibilities, qualifications and requirements.

Key performance areas

  • Completing high quality engagements within budget and deadlines which may include work outside of normal business hours.
  • Charge required hours.
  • Effective management of administration responsibilities.
  • Relationship development and management of key clients.

Role and responsibilities

  • Form part of an Independent Review team and assist in Independent Review engagements from the planning of engagements through to the clearing of the queries, finalisation and lockdown of the Independent Review engagement.
  • Attend any meetings related to Independent Review engagements for which you are allocated.
  • Assist in training employees more junior to you in relation to Independent Review work
  • Compilation of high-quality Financial Statements in terms of both IFRS and IFRS for SMEs including full working paper file. Responsible for the planning of engagements through to the clearing of the queries, finalisation and lockdown.
  • Liaising with clients.
  • Monitoring your own budget and time spent on assignments (including daily recording of time on practice management system – currently Greatsoft), as well as budgets and time spent of any employees reporting to you on an engagement. Responding timeously and appropriately to any expected budget overruns.
  • Ensuring that your planning board and time recording system is a true reflection of your activities and is kept up to date at all times.
  • Any administration requested by an Assurance Director, Senior Manager, Manager or Associate which is related to the performance of an Independent Review or Compilation function, or the functioning of the department.
  • Adherence to the firm's Quality and Independence policies

Qualification and experience

  • Must have completed SAICA articles and have working knowledge of IFRS and IFRS for SMEs.
  • The minimum requirement is a BCom degree, however, a PGDA / CTA will be considered an advantage.
  • MS Office skills: MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Proven experience in drafting and preparing financial statements using Caseware Working Papers
  • Assurance background would be beneficial.
