REMINDER: ONBOARDING TO THE CUSTOMS RLA SYSTEM TO AVOID POTENTIAL CANCELLATION OF CUSTOMS LICENSE

During 2020 SARS launched the self-service Registration, Licensing and Accreditation (“RLA”) system with the intention to ease and simplify the Customs and Excise registration process. The RLA system has since undergone various enhancements since its launch and SARS now has the ability to migrate all clients onto the RLA system, including those clients that were previously registered through a manual process. The RLA system will enable SARS to maintain the Customs and Excise register electronically and grant users access to a self-service facility.

In its communication issued to trade in August 2022 SARS has indicated that it is a legislative requirement that all Customs and Excise registrants and licencees update their company or individual details. SARS further noted that in line with Rules 59A.01A(c)(i) and 60.10(1)(a) of the Customs and Excise Act, all Customs and Excise registrants, or class of registrants, and any licensee or class of licensees, are therefore required to update or confirm current registration information by completing and submitting in accordance with Rules 59A.01A(b)(i) and 60.01A(b)(i) the electronic application (on the RLA system) and to furnish any additional information required, if applicable.

With the 31 March 2023 deadline to update registration and licensing details specific to Customs and Excise registrations fast approaching, we remind clients to act and complete the RLA onboarding process or risk cancellation of any existing Customs and Excise registration and licenses in place.

Should you require assistance with the onboarding process and the updating of existing registration or licensing information, please contact us.
