The gender gap between the education levels is a much researched topic. RSM in South Africa is taking action to make a difference and get involved. The socioeconomic impact of the education of women has far reaching consequences, increasing gender diversity in the workplace being just one of them.

As of 22 July 2016, RSM South Africa created the RSM Education Trust which will carry out public benefit activities in a non-profit manner. The purpose of this Trust is to award black women from impoverished backgrounds in South Africa with bursaries in respect of tertiary education.

Possible bursary recipients will be put through a stringent selection process and will be handpicked by the Trust. Bursaries will be awarded primarily to students studying towards becoming Chartered Accountants.

The students may receive funding for tuition, meals, accommodation, books and a small living allowance. In addition to tangible support in the form of financial aid, the students will also receive counselling and emotional support. The Trustees are committed to this holistic approach and will use their diverse skills to ensure that the Trust objectives are met and real value is added to the lives of the students.

There is no doubt that this initiative has the potential to make a significant impact directly on the lives of the recipients of this bursary scheme, as well as have a broader benefit to the families of the recipients, the accounting profession and the economy as a whole through developing more qualified Chartered Accountants.
