Senior IT Support Technician

Johannesburg

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior IT Support Technician to join our Johannesburg team. This role is pivotal in maintaining and evolving our IT infrastructure, supporting end-users, and driving forward our cloud-first strategy. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in both traditional IT support and modern cloud technologies, including Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 architecture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

End-User & Application Support

  • Provide remote and onsite support for desktop and mobile users (Windows, Android, iOS).
  • Troubleshoot and support application software (e.g., MS Office, Sage, Pastel, CaseWare).
  • Handle user-related issues including password resets, account lockouts, and profile corruption.
  • Configure and support network printers and multifunction devices.
  • Email setup and troubleshooting (Exchange Online).

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft Intune for device compliance, configuration policies, and app deployment.
  • Manage Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) including user provisioning, group management, and conditional access policies.
  • Support and maintain Microsoft 365 architecture, including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Exchange Online.
  • Configure and manage Windows Server environments including patching, updates, and role-based services.
  • Active Directory management (users, groups, GPOs).
  • Basic administration of DNS, DHCP, and domain controllers.
  • Monitor and report system alerts using N-central MSP.
  • Perform hardware setup, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Monitor and report on backup systems and logs.
  • Support virtualization platforms (Hyper-V / VMware).
  • After-hours standby support (Rotational).

Network & Security

  • Perform basic LAN/WAN troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Assist in the maintenance of ISO 27001 controls.
  • Support mobile device management and endpoint security policies.
  • Participate in security incident response and documentation.
  • Documentation & Collaboration
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers for escalations and procurement.
  • Participate in IT projects, upgrades, and rollouts across the organization.
  • Monitor system performance, uptime, and capacity planning.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in IT, computer science or related qualification.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation, Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in IT support, with exposure to cloud services and enterprise environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Entra ID (Azure AD), and Microsoft 365 is highly desirable.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across hardware, software, and network layers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and cloud administration.
  • Solid understanding of Active Directory (user account management) and Windows Server environments.
  • Basic network troubleshooting (LAN/WAN).
  • Printer configuration and support.
  • Hardware setup, repair, and maintenance.
  • Backup log examination and issue reporting.
  • Assist in the managing of ISO 27001 controls.
  • Basic understanding of security incident management.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., N-central MSP).
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently or in a team.
  • Willingness to participate in rotational after-hours standby support.
