The Health and Safety Reform Bill currently before a parliamentary select committee will, if enacted, create the Health and Safety at Work Act. The new regulations are part of the Government’s Working Safer package of reforms which aims to reduce New Zealand’s workplace serious injury and death toll by 25 per cent by 2020.
What is abundantly clear is that this area of the law in New Zealand is getting a thorough overhaul and tightening up. It is also being closely modeled on the Australian legislation already in place.
