Adrian Tang
Director - Sydney

Adrian Tang is a Director in Corporate Tax at RSM Australia, specialising in technology-driven tax solutions with a focus on blockchain, digital assets and corporate tax advisory.

As a Director in our Sydney Corporate Tax team, Adrian brings sharp technical insight, commercial pragmatism and a steady hand to the complex world of corporate tax strategy. He specialises in helping businesses understand and manage the tax implications of their most critical decisions, whether navigating mergers and acquisitions, implementing employee incentive plans or responding to tax-related due diligence. With deep experience advising across the full transaction lifecycle, Adrian partners with large corporates, middle-market enterprises and private equity firms to provide tailored, practical tax guidance that aligns with both compliance obligations and strategic goals. He is particularly focused on advising clients in the technology and digital asset sectors, helping them navigate the unique tax challenges of their rapidly evolving industries.

Adrian has a decade of professional services experience and has built a strong reputation as a trusted and dependable adviser for organisations undergoing structural change. He works closely with clients to resolve the often-overlooked tax complexities that can significantly impact deal value, post-acquisition integration or long-term business viability. His work spans a broad spectrum of services including tax consolidation, restructuring support, strategic tax modelling, and advising on the design and implementation of employee share schemes and incentive plans. With a strong technical foundation and a pragmatic mindset, Adrian’s goal is always to simplify complexity and empower clients to make informed, confident decisions.

"I enjoy helping clients cut through complexity and make confident, strategic tax decisions during their most critical business moments."

Before beginning his career at RSM, Adrian gained hands-on experience at a boutique accounting firm, where he was part of a specialist superannuation tax team. He also spent time working for a liquidator, giving him early exposure to insolvency matters and the intricate challenges faced by distressed businesses. These formative experiences helped shape his holistic view of the business landscape, building an appreciation for both the commercial pressures clients face and the need for precise technical execution. They also taught him to think beyond isolated tax issues and consider how decisions play out across the broader financial picture.

Adrian’s ability to demystify complex tax legislation has been a cornerstone of his success, particularly when clients are operating under pressure or entering unfamiliar territory. One memorable project involved working with the founder of a highly successful private business who was in the process of selling their company. While the founder was an expert in their field, they found themselves overwhelmed by the level of tax scrutiny and technical questioning that arose during the purchaser’s due diligence process. Adrian stepped in as their dedicated tax adviser, helping to translate complex queries into plain English, developing clear response strategies and ensuring the founder was fully informed throughout negotiations. By guiding the client through a tight timeline with calm and clarity, Adrian helped secure a favourable deal outcome without conceding unnecessary value, transforming what had been a stressful and uncertain process into a successful, well-managed transaction.

Adrian applies this same client-focused approach to the technology sector. He is passionate about helping innovative businesses, from fintech startups to established software companies, structure themselves for growth. Whether it's advising on the tax implications of a capital raise, establishing an employee share scheme, or navigating the complexities of the digital asset economy, he brings a forward-looking perspective grounded in commercial reality.

Much of Adrian’s work focuses on helping clients navigate high-stakes decisions with precision and confidence. Whether he’s advising a corporate group through the intricacies of forming a tax consolidated group, supporting a private equity firm as they evaluate the tax implications of a new acquisition or working with a government agency on a strategic restructure, Adrian consistently delivers value through clear communication, collaborative engagement and technical excellence. He thrives on solving challenging problems and helping clients anticipate and overcome tax roadblocks before they escalate.

What Adrian enjoys most about his role is the variety it offers. No two engagements are the same and each day brings new opportunities to tackle unique challenges and deliver practical solutions. This dynamic nature of the work, coupled with the satisfaction of seeing his advice lead to tangible client outcomes, is what drives his ongoing commitment to excellence and his passion for leveraging technology to build a more efficient and insightful advisory practice.

Away from the office, Adrian stays active with badminton and running. He also serves as Chief of Staff to a demanding three-cat household, where he manages complex negotiations around snack distribution and unsolicited commentary on keyboard ergonomics.
