Our chat with Ian Harper, AO – Dean of Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne as well as Board Member, Reserve Bank of Australia

Steve first caught up for a coffee conversation with Professor Ian Harper, AO back in October 2020 via Zoom whilst Melbourne was still in lockdown, so he was more than pleased to have the opportunity to catch up with Ian again, this time in person to share a coffee (or a tea in Ian’s case) during a recent trip to Melbourne.

Much has happened since Ian’s team at Melbourne Business School entered the digital online world in a rush to combat the abrupt stop to face-to-face teaching as the pandemic took hold. He shares with Steve the journey over the past couple of years to evolve their teaching experience to offer more flexibility to course participants in helping them to create and build connections and relationships to build their professional network.

Regarding his role as Board Member of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Ian shares the challenging experience of being faced with the prospect of one of the deepest downturns since the great depression, and the role of the RBA to respond to it.
