Welcome to our first edition of Risk Insider.

Recently we have seen some interesting developments around the world that have redefined how companies and government entities view risks. It has been a busy period for risk and compliance professionals. There have been a significant number of changes that Boards, Chief Executive Officers and Chief Risk Officers have had to deal with which has accelerated change and the need to access the right risk and compliance advisors has never been as strong.

The Financial Services Royal Commission has been an obvious catalyst, and this has raised consciousness at Board level in all sectors. The volume of work post Royal Commission has been a key driver in risk and compliance functions looking to restructure or reinvent themselves.

We have seen record fines being levied by the regulators in Europe. In the UK alone, fines have totalled USD$370m for data breaches – so fail to guard your data at your peril is the loud message being sent by regulators.

RSM view data privacy as a key risk area for our client’s audit coverage, and we are pleased to welcome Darren Booth as our new Partner who will focus on data protection and cyber security.

We have been a proud supporter of diversity and inclusion. Over the past 12 years, RSM has held several Women on Boards lunches with the next being held in Melbourne on Monday, 12 August 2019, where we will discuss the topical issue of “Leadership, Culture and Governance for Boards – The Road Ahead”. Mr. John Stanhope AM, a highly respected and experienced Governance Thought Leader and transformation expert, will be our guest speaker.
