In October 2018, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced $50m to fund an on-farm emergency water infrastructure rebate scheme to provide financial help to primary producers in drought-affected regions.

Eligible primary producers can claim a rebate of 25% of the costs that relate to the purchase and installation of on-farm water infrastructure that addresses animal welfare needs and improves drought resilience.

Farmers can access the scheme for expenses incurred since 1 July 2018 to the maximum amount of $25,000, through the NSW Rural Assistance Authority. emergency water infrastructure rebate scheme

The rebate can be applied to costs related to new purchases, and installation of pipes, water storages and water pumps, de-silting dams, and associated power supplies such as generators.

The availability of the rebate is subject to funds being available. No rebates will be offered beyond the allocated funding of $12m.

The scheme will close on 30 June 2021 or when funding is exhausted, whichever occurs first.

Who can apply?

You must be:

  • a primary producer (as defined by your state or territory)
  • a property owner, share farmer or leaseholder
  • in an area defined as drought affected (this applies to anyone in NSW)
  • in the grazing industry

Eligible expenses

Your new infrastructure must:

  • be for grazing livestock that you own (not agisted stock)
  • be for an animal welfare need
  • improve your drought resilience
