The Housing Innovation Fund (HIF) grant program supports Western Australian businesses to increase housing supply through the adoption and commercialisation of modern methods of construction (MMC).

The WA Government has launched a $28m grant program through its Housing Innovation Fund (HIF)  initiative. A $20m low-interest loan program will also be made available, likely to launch in early 2026.

The HIF grants program is for clients that have developed and are deploying new approaches that differ from traditional methods of on-site residential construction such as prefabrication, modular construction and robotics and automated solutions.

The Housing Innovation Fund (HIF) grant program supports Western Australian businesses to increase housing supply through the adoption and commercialisation of modern methods of construction (MMC).

Applications are sought from projects that leverage innovative building techniques that differ from traditional on-site construction method such as:

  • Prefabrication, modular construction, additive manufacturing or automated building technologies

Project must develop and commercialise new MMC products, processes or supply chains within the residential sector.

Program objectives:

  • Increase construction productivity
  • Improve housing affordability and support regional housing outcomes
  • Strengthen WA’s advanced housing manufacturing capability
  • Accelerate MMC adoption and enhance environmental sustainability

Grant funding of up to $5 million is available. The total funding pool is $28 million.

Funding is available on a 1:1 contribution basis.

Applicants must:

  • Be a Western Australian business operating in residential construction, manufacturing or a related sector
  • Have operated in WA for more than 12 months
  • Be a legal entity with an ABN or ACN
  • Be registered for GST

Project requirements:

  • Commence within 60 days of signing the Financial Assistance Agreement
  • Be complete within 24 months
