Sandy Collins
Senior Accountant - Wagga Wagga

Sandy Collins is a Senior Accountant in the Wagga Wagga Business Advisory division.

Sandy combines a practical, down-to-earth approach with strategic thinking to help regional SMEs navigate complex financial challenges and seize new opportunities. Drawing on her firsthand understanding of the local economy and her background in the service industry, she brings empathy, clarity, and commitment to every client interaction.

Sandy began her journey at RSM while studying at university and has steadily grown her career in business advisory and taxation, developing a deep understanding of the needs of small to medium-sized enterprises in regional Australia.

Prior to her accounting career, she worked as an Assistant Restaurant Manager at McDonald's, a role that sharpened her organisational and communication skills, and helped foster her natural ability to lead under pressure. This early career experience taught her the value of hard work, operational efficiency, and the importance of connecting with people, lessons she carries through to her work with clients today.

Sandy specialises in helping regional SMEs streamline their operations, improve cash flow, plan for future growth, and stay compliant in an increasingly complex tax landscape. She takes pride in creating solutions that are tailored to each client’s business, whether it's developing strategies for finance requirements, improving cash flow, or identifying opportunities for growth through collaboration with other service lines within RSM.

"I love building genuine relationships with my clients and helping them make confident decisions that drive their business forward, especially in the regional communities I’m proud to be part of."

One of Sandy’s most rewarding areas of work is succession planning for family farming enterprises, a critical issue for many regional businesses. She has worked closely with farming families to navigate generational transitions, helping them build modern, sustainable business structures that protect family harmony while preparing the next generation for success. In one such case, Sandy was instrumental in coordinating a smooth succession plan that allowed the younger generation to take on more responsibility without disrupting operations, ensuring both financial security and long-term stability for the family.

Tax planning is another area where Sandy consistently adds value. She takes a proactive approach, working closely with clients throughout the year, not just at tax time, to ensure they’re making the most of available opportunities and minimising liabilities. In one recent case, her forward-thinking tax planning helped a client significantly reduce their tax bill while simultaneously investing in future business growth. It’s these kinds of results, tangible, strategic, and focused on the bigger picture, that Sandy finds most satisfying.

Sandy is especially passionate about building strong relationships with her clients. For her, success isn’t just about the numbers, it’s about seeing clients achieve their goals, whether that’s growing their business, buying their first property, or passing the farm on to the next generation. She enjoys being part of that journey and takes pride in being someone her clients can trust and rely on.

At RSM, Sandy also enjoys the collaborative environment and the opportunity to work alongside colleagues from a wide range of specialties. She is always looking to identify where other RSM services such as financial modelling, business restructuring, or cloud accounting might benefit her clients, ensuring they receive holistic support across every stage of their business lifecycle.

Outside of work, Sandy brings the same energy and teamwork mindset to the sports field. A keen athlete, she plays netball, soccer, and football, which help her stay active and connected to her local community. This passion for sport reflects her broader approach to life and work as collaborative, competitive, and always striving to improve.
