RSM's local newsletter.

2025 is shaping up to be quite a roller coaster year.

With extreme weather events, trade wars, an election, and even a new pope, the news cycle has been relentless, making it challenging to keep track of important updates amidst the chaos.

For those of us living in regional Australia, it's tempting to tune it all out and enjoy the peace and quiet. To make it easier, the team here at Ballarat has hand picked some insights that we think you’ll find relevant.

The last six months have flown by, and our team continues to thrive. We have a newly appointed Director in our midst, thanks to a well-deserved promotion.

We completed the renovation of our Ballarat office in April, which has allowed us to expand our capacity and welcome several new team members.

Our business advisory, financial services and audit service lines are steadily growing and effectively serving our region.

And we are pleased to report that our team has been actively engaging with the community we know and love.

As we come to the end of another financial year, we want to thank our team, our clients, and our wider network for working with us throughout 2025.

We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter and find the contents useful and informative.

Best regards,

The team at RSM in Ballarat

LEADERSHIP CHANGES

This year has been a time of change, both for the world and for RSM Australia. On June 30, we bid goodbye to our Chief Executive Partner, Jamie O’Rourke.

Jamie began his career with RSM 34 years ago in the regional office of Goulburn before moving to Sydney in 1997. As our national leader for the past nine years, Jamie guided us through a period of significant growth and change, including managing the disruptions and challenges brought about by the pandemic. Throughout his tenure, he maintained and strengthened RSM’s strong presence in regional Australia, stating, “While we continue to grow across all areas, our regional footprint is unique and integral to our national identity.”

We are pleased to announce Robert Miano as our new Chief Executive Partner, effective July 1, 2025.

With over 25 years of experience in audit and corporate advisory work, Robert is well-equipped to lead RSM Australia into the future.

Additionally, several senior appointments in our regional offices will also take effect on July 1, 2025.

Congratulations to the following Partners:

  • Sharon Baldwin | Toowoomba, Business Advisory
  • Amanda Beckhouse | Wagga Wagga, Business Advisory
  • Ross Dixon | Albury, Business Advisory
  • Kara Golding | Geraldton, Business Advisory
  • Reagan Manns | Moora/Jurien Bay, Business Advisory

LOCAL TEAM NEWS

It brings us great pleasure to announce that Matthew Callahan has been promoted to Director effective July 1. Congratulations, Matt!

The RSM team in Ballarat is rapidly growing across all service lines. We are pleased to welcome:

Jayin Patel, and Thomas Slee, our new Business Advisory graduates, along with Claudette Atienza as an Accountant.

Nandu Kuriakose, who joined our Audit and Assurance team as an Audit Senior in January, followed by graduates Han Bin Rusdin and Max Agarwal in February and Vishal Devassy earlier this month.

Simon Leigh, a Paraplanner, and William Holt, a Graduate, in our Financial Services team.

Welcome to the team!

In March, our new grads embarked on an incredible journey with COLAB, an innovative program designed to enhance their technical skills, personal growth, and professional confidence in a collaborative setting. From engaging Q&A sessions to hands-on workshops and valuable networking opportunities, our graduates gained essential skills and connections to propel their careers forward.

This year, we also celebrated a number of significant staff milestones.

Congratulations to Kate Tierney, Shane Bicknell, Keren Buckland, Hugo Tolliday, and Maddison Clack on reaching their five-year tenure at RSM.

Jason Luu has completed all of his studies to become our newest Chartered Accountant. Well done, Jason!

Finally, congratulations to Kristina Madden and Daniel White for completing RSM's 12-month Leadership and Management Program (LAMP). LAMP is an internal program for our highest performers, supporting their transition into senior leadership roles within the business.

Engaging with the community is a significant aspect of life at RSM, and this year has been no exception.

In February, our Ballarat team travelled to Brisbane for the AgriFutures Australia evokeAG conference, an event we were proud to sponsor. With a strong agricultural client base in Ballarat, it was the perfect opportunity for Paul Rogan (Partner) and Anthony Riding (Director) to immerse themselves in the action.

Additionally, our team once again took on the challenge of Peach’s Run, a meaningful event aimed at raising awareness and vital funds for local mental health programs in honour of James ‘Peach’ Petrie.

Another highlight of our social calendar was the Dunkeld Races, where our team had an amazing time connecting with the community and enjoying the festivities
