RSM's local newsletter.
2025 is shaping up to be quite a roller coaster year.
With extreme weather events, trade wars, an election, and even a new pope, the news cycle has been relentless, making it challenging to keep track of important updates amidst the chaos.
For those of us living in regional Australia, it's tempting to tune it all out and enjoy the peace and quiet. To make it easier, the team here at Toowoomba has hand picked some insights that we think you’ll find relevant.
As our team continues to expand, we are excited to announce that we have a new Partner in our midst and have welcomed two new team members (more on that below).
We love working with you and are very grateful that you have entrusted us to be your advisers.
We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter and find the contents useful and informative.
Best regards,
The team at RSM in Toowoomba
LEADERSHIP CHANGES
This year has been a time of change, both for the world and for RSM Australia. On June 30, we bid goodbye to our Chief Executive Partner, Jamie O’Rourke.
Jamie began his career with RSM 34 years ago in the regional office of Goulburn before moving to Sydney in 1997. As our national leader for the past nine years, Jamie guided us through a period of significant growth and change, including managing the disruptions and challenges brought about by the pandemic. Throughout his tenure, he maintained and strengthened RSM’s strong presence in regional Australia, stating, “While we continue to grow across all areas, our regional footprint is unique and integral to our national identity.”
We are pleased to announce Robert Miano as our new Chief Executive Partner, effective July 1, 2025.
With over 25 years of experience in audit and corporate advisory work, Robert is well-equipped to lead RSM Australia into the future.

LOCAL TEAM NEWS
Congratulations to Sharon Baldwin on her well-deserved appointment to Partner from July 1.
It is great to see our firm’s commitment to regional Australia continue to grow. Sharon is a wonderful asset to our Toowoomba office and we couldn’t be prouder of her achievement.
This year, we are also excited to welcome two new staff members to our team: Lawson Troy and Emily Cooper. Lawson has joined us as an undergraduate and has quickly adapted to his role. We are eager to see him grow with us!
Emily has come on board as our receptionist, serving as the face of our business. She has seamlessly integrated into the team and has proven to be an excellent addition.
Welcome aboard, Lawson and Emily!
In March, Will Laird, our partner in Toowoomba, once again had the privilege of hosting the Federal Budget Breakfast.
He delivered a fantastic presentation that provided insight into various aspects of the proposed budget. After his presentation, he sat down with Ian MacFarlane (former Member for Groom), John McVeigh (Chancellor of USQ), and April Cavanagh (chair of TSBE) to discuss additional details of the budget and answer questions from the guests. The morning was a great success, with over 150 attendees.
We are very proud to announce that one of our Senior Accountants, Sarah Kelso, has been nominated as a Finalist for the Accountants Daily Australian Accounting Awards 2025. Sarah has been shortlisted for the Rising Star of the Year award. This award is for those who have been recognised amongst the top accounting professionals and businesses worldwide. Please join us as we take this time to celebrate her remarkable accomplishment. Congratulations Sarah!
