Low Emissions Investment Partnerships program offers funding to major projects that significantly abate scope 1 emissions at metallurgical coal-producing facilities in Queensland:

  • Accelerate reduction of scope 1 emissions through:
  • Deploying established emissions reduction technologies;
    • Pilots, trials, and demonstration projects to commercialise and scale up technologies;
    • Front-End Engineering Design studies; and/or
    • Investment in enabling infrastructure (including common user infrastructure)
  • Maximise efficiencies and beneficial use of QLD resources
  • Build capabilities in low emissions technologies (e.g. using alternative fuels, using emissions to fuel power generation etc.)
  • Sustain or create regional jobs.
     

How much is available?

The total funding pool is $520 million. The individual co-investment amount will be determined by the project’s benefits to QLD.

Who can apply for the Industry Growth Program?

Owners of operators of QLD coal mining facilities that:

  • Are subject to the Safeguard Mechanism (emit over 100,000 tonnes of scope 1 CO2 emissions per financial year); and
  • Produce metallurgical coal as the majority coal output.

Additionally, applicants must propose an investment-ready project that:

  • Has potential to reduce the facility’s scope 1 emissions; and
  • Demonstrates technical feasibility of emissions reduction technologies.
     

When are applications due for the Low Emissions Investment Partnerships program?

Expression of Interest applications are open until funding is fully allocated.
