Joel Ashworth
Senior Manager - Brisbane
Joel Ashworth is a Senior Manager in RSM Australia’s Business Advisory division, based in Brisbane.
He works with middle-market SMEs, regional businesses, and high-net-worth families, helping them manage business growth, improve their financial structures, and meet their tax and reporting obligations with confidence.
Joel specialises in business strategy, tax optimisation, succession planning, and financial advisory, drawing on years of experience supporting privately owned and family-run businesses across Queensland. His approach is practical, people-focused, and grounded in a genuine desire to help clients build stronger, more resilient businesses.
His clients value his ability to simplify complex issues, communicate clearly, and guide them through important decisions that affect both their business and personal life.
"The best part of my job is the people. Business owners, families, advisers, colleagues. I love helping them solve problems and create more choice in their lives."
He is known for stepping into situations where business owners feel stretched or uncertain. One of his most meaningful client experiences involved supporting a family business that felt completely burnt out. Over several years, Joel helped build a team of advisors around them, improve their business performance, and restore their sense of control.
What they gained, ultimately, was choice, the choice to sell, stay, slow down, travel, or simply enjoy life again.
Seeing this transformation remains one of Joel’s proudest achievements.
Joel has been a Business Services accountant since 2017 and has experience across a wide range of industries. Before joining RSM, he worked at another mid-tier firm developing strong technical skills.
His approach blends technical skill with relationship-building. He listens carefully, asks the right questions, and ensures his advice is practical, realistic, and tailored to how each business actually operates.
Joel is motivated by helping people, solving real-world business problems, and creating clarity for clients who often feel overwhelmed by complexity.
He enjoys learning from the business owners and families he meets, and he values the trust they place in him during critical moments of their journey.
Outside of work, Joel is a local SES volunteer, often responding to severe weather events by placing tarps on roofs, clearing debris, and helping communities get back on their feet.
He is also passionate about water sports and adventure activities — if it involves movement or the outdoors, he’s likely to be involved.
His approachable nature, calm communication style, and genuine interest in people make him a trusted adviser and an easy person for clients to connect with.
