2025 is shaping up to be quite a roller coaster year.

With extreme weather events, trade wars, an election, and even a new pope, the news cycle has been relentless, making it challenging to keep track of important updates amidst the chaos.

For those of us living in regional Australia, it's tempting to tune it all out and enjoy the peace and quiet. To make it easier, the team here at Albany has hand picked some insights that we think you’ll find relevant.

From new team members and regional visitors to celebrating regional women in business, we have had a busy start to the year here in Albany.

We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter and find the contents useful and informative.

Best regards,

The team at RSM in Albany

LEADERSHIP CHANGES

This year has been a time of change, both for the world and for RSM Australia. On June 30, we bid goodbye to our Chief Executive Partner, Jamie O’Rourke.

Jamie began his career with RSM 34 years ago in the regional office of Goulburn before moving to Sydney in 1997. As our national leader for the past nine years, Jamie guided us through a period of significant growth and change, including managing the disruptions and challenges brought about by the pandemic. Throughout his tenure, he maintained and strengthened RSM’s strong presence in regional Australia, stating, “While we continue to grow across all areas, our regional footprint is unique and integral to our national identity.”

We are pleased to announce Robert Miano as our new Chief Executive Partner, effective July 1, 2025.

With over 25 years of experience in audit and corporate advisory work, Robert is well-equipped to lead RSM Australia into the future.

  • Ross Dixon | Albury, Business Advisory
  • Kara Golding | Geraldton, Business Advisory
  • Reagan Manns | Moora/Jurien Bay, Business Advisory

LOCAL TEAM NEWS

We recently welcomed Leanne Bee to the RSM team in Albany.

We recently welcomed Leanne Bee to the RSM team in Albany. She grew up on a farm in Williams, studied, then worked in agriculture and married a farmer - so she brings valuable lived experience from her background in the agriculture industry that is already benefiting both the team and clients. In the last few years of farming in Jacup, she and her husband transitioned from manual accounting to going online and using Xero. If you've ever been curious about digital bookkeeping from a farming perspective, Leanne is the one to reach out to.

We also had the pleasure of hosting Michelle Ewing from RSM in Bunbury, who provided in-person support and training while the Bunbury office relocated. One of the benefits of being part of a large firm with a strong regional presence is being able to work closely together with each other regardless of the distance between our offices.

We’re proud to celebrate Jo Gilbert, Partner at RSM in Albany, on her remarkable 25-year milestone with the firm. Jo’s unwavering dedication, expertise, and support have made a lasting impact on both the agricultural industry and the wider Albany community. Thank you, Jo, for your outstanding service and commitment – we’re incredibly grateful to have you as part of the RSM team.

Jo Gilbert recently attended the AgriFutures WA Rural Women’s Award in Perth, alongside Keiran Sullivan from RSM's Northam office.

This award, now in its 25th year, celebrates regional women from all parts of Western Australia who showcase their talents and passion for running businesses in their communities. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Isabella Thrupp from the Kimberley region, for her business Prinking in Pindan. She will now proceed to the national awards in Canberra in September.

During the event, Jo also spent an afternoon with past winners and finalists, sharing practical insights on business structures and how to establish a business for long-term success.

Do you know any inspirational women in regional WA doing great things who deserve recognition? Consider reaching out to State Chair Maree Gooch to learn how to nominate them for next year’s awards.
