It has been a full-on start to 2026 – how are things tracking along for you? 

With ongoing cost-of-living pressures, global tensions and inflation, it’s already shaping up to be a challenging year for many. Closer to home, local businesses have also been navigating recovery following the impacts of the harmful algal bloom.

We are pleased to welcome Jasbir Kaur and Mel Bartel to the team. 

Jasbir, Senior Accountant, joined our team in November last year, bringing over four years’ experience in the accounting field. She relocated from India to Australia over nine years ago and completed her Master of Professional Accounting (Advanced) in Adelaide. During her downtime, Jasbir enjoys cooking and exploring new places.

Mel joined our team in April as a Bookkeeper and is part of our Business Services team (following Tahlia Karpinski’s departure). After a 25-year career in teaching, she made a career change to bookkeeping in 2022. Mel grew up in Adelaide but has a soft spot for the country life. She loves camping with her family, volunteering and all things craft!

We also celebrated Cherie Bascomb’s 25 years with RSM in May! Cherie joined us in 2001 under the leadership of Glenn Karutz, and completed her accounting studies whilst working, continuing to become a SMSF Specialist Adviser. Congratulations on this incredible milestone, Cherie!

We are proud to share that Emily Murphy has stepped into the role of Treasurer for the Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce & Tourism. 

Emily takes over from Bryson Keeley, who served in the position for the past two years. Alongside the broader committee, Emily is looking forward to continuing to make a positive impact within the local business community.

Continuing our commitment to supporting regional businesses, RSM recently presented at the Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula Small Business Fundamentals workshop in Cleve. Emma Haines-Darby and Pauline Hurrell shared practical insights on how automation, systems and apps can reduce time on manual processes, as well as how KPIs and benchmarking can support more informed business decisions. Last year, our team stepped back in time to the Roaring 20s at our Great Gatsby themed Christmas show, finishing the year off with a bang! Everyone got into the spirit with some fabulous costumes and friendly banter from the 'gamblers'. The event was held at the Port Lincoln Racing Club with catering by Damien Mrdjen.
