Eckard Bergh is a Partner in the Sydney Audit and Assurance division.

With more than 15 years of experience across audit, assurance, and financial reporting, Eckard Bergh brings deep technical expertise and a practical, solutions-focused mindset to his role as Partner in the Audit and Assurance division in Sydney. 

Having worked extensively with large corporate entities, middle-market SMEs, and regional SMEs, Eckard understands the commercial realities facing organisations as they grow, transform, and respond to changing regulatory demands. Eckard’s has led complex audit and financial reporting engagements across sectors including manufacturing, professional services, private equity, wholesale, retail, and specialised areas of financial services. His experience working closely with family-owned businesses, privately held multinational groups and listed entities has shaped a balanced and adaptable approach, one that is grounded in technical excellence but equally focused on delivering value, clarity and confidence to boards and management teams.

Before joining RSM Australia, Eckard served as Head of Assurance for RSM South Africa, leading a department of more than 200 professionals. In this role, he oversaw day-to-day operations, drove strategic initiatives and represented the firm on both the RSM Africa Assurance Committee and the SAICA Audit Leaders Forum. 

Throughout his career, Eckard has delivered high-impact outcomes for clients navigating complex audit environments. He has acted as lead component auditor for several multinational listed groups, managing relationships with group auditors across the global RSM network. His priority in these engagements is to ensure clients experience the strength of a truly integrated international firm, one where communication is seamless, quality is consistent, and the audit approach is both collaborative and tailored to the realities of the organisation. This unified global experience often proves critical for clients facing intricate reporting structures or multi-jurisdictional compliance obligations.

What Eckard enjoys most about his role is the opportunity to solve complex problems and help clients succeed as they evolve. Whether he is supporting a fast-growing SME, guiding a multinational through a technical reporting challenge, or mentoring a high-performing audit team, he is motivated by delivering tangible results, restored compliance, improved governance, stronger financial reporting and ultimately, greater confidence for stakeholders. He is equally passionate about developing people and he takes pride in seeing those he has mentored grow into senior leaders across the profession.

Among his professional achievements, Eckard is particularly proud of leading an assurance division, contributing to global audit committees, and working on some of the most challenging multinational audit engagements in his career. His enjoyment of collaboration, across teams, borders, and disciplines continues to influence how he works with clients today.

Outside the world of audit and assurance, Eckard’s background is just as accomplished. Before entering the profession, he was a professional road cyclist, representing South Africa on the national team and racing internationally. Today, he channels that competitive spirit into endurance running, on road & trail and is always on the lookout for his next ultra-distance challenge. He is also a keen diver, an outdoors enthusiast and a lifelong lover of music. Prior to joining RSM, he was also the co-founder of an endurance sports coaching business, further strengthening his leadership capabilities and people-focused approach.
