Significant projects:
Emerson was involved in a complex Sydney-based client engagement that required coordination across a group structure comprising multiple entities. He worked closely with internal teams to ensure client documentation, instructions and workflows were managed accurately and efficiently. The engagement provided exposure to more sophisticated affairs than a typical individual or small business tax matter and contributed to the successful delivery of a comprehensive client outcome.
In another matter, Emerson assisted a client who had sold a former home that had been rented out for several years and was concerned about a substantial capital gains tax liability. After reviewing the property's history and the client's circumstances, he identified eligibility for the main residence absence rule.
The outcome was significant. The client was able to access a full exemption on a capital gain of approximately $245,000, avoiding a potentially large tax liability. Equally important, Emerson took the time to explain the legislation and reasoning behind the outcome, giving the client confidence in the advice and a clear understanding of their position.
