The Queensland Critical Minerals and Battery Technology Fund (QCMBTF) Grant Stream supports projects that develop the workforce, technology, and infrastructure required to establish a globally competitive critical minerals, battery technologies, and advanced materials industry in Queensland. QCMBTF

The QCMBTF Grant Stream particularly seeks to support Queensland-based projects in the critical minerals, battery technologies, and advanced materials industry that:

  • Establish enabling infrastructure required for local supply chain growth, such as small-scale pilot and demonstration facilities, equipment and common-user infrastructure;
  • Build or expand Queensland’s capabilities in critical minerals extraction and processing, active material and battery manufacturing, or integration of recycled materials into production; 
  • Boost Queensland’s competitiveness in national and global supply chains, such as by establishing or growing capabilities that address key market gaps;
  • Create ongoing Queensland-based jobs and upskilling opportunities, such as workforce expansion, apprenticeships and industry-research collaborations; and
  • Catalyse private sector investment, such as demonstration of technology advancement towards commercialisation, and feasibility studies to bring forward investment decisions.

What funding is available?

Grant Stream: Grants of up to $2 million are available towards up to 50% of project costs.

Investment Stream: Equity and/or debt investment is available to growth-stage businesses in the process of scaling up Queensland-based operations in these sectors.

Who should apply for the Grant Stream?Queensland grant

Consider applying for the QCMBTF’s Grant Stream if you are planning a Queensland-based project in the critical mineral, battery technology or advanced materials sectors that will:

Involve feasibility studies, pilot projects, establishing or scaling up manufacturing capabilities, or early operational activities; 

Generate significant economic benefits, job creation, capability building and enabling infrastructure in Queensland; and

Have a lead applicant with a Queensland-registered place of business (unless proposing a Queensland-based critical minerals project).

The QCMBTF enables Queensland businesses to establish the infrastructure, workforce and capabilities required to be competitive in a rapidly growing global battery market.
