The WA Government has announced the Lower Carbon Grants (LCG) program funded by the Gorgon Fund.

The LCG program is designed to fund large, transformational research and innovation activity across industries, technology platforms and regions that support practical and effective decarbonisation solutions for WA. 

The size of the grants ($5m to $15m) is targeting larger impact projects and will provide up to 50% of the project cost.

The program supports large, transformational research and innovation projects related to decarbonisation in Western Australia.

Projects will be prioritised that:

  • Result in potential CO2 emissions being significantly lower than the relevant baseline;
  • Overcome market failures;
  • Leverage funding from other sources; and/or
  • Deliver broad benefits to Western Australia.

The program forms part of an agreement between the WA Government and the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project, with funds provided by the Gorgon Joint Venture.

Grants of between $5 million and $15 million are available, matched by the applicant. The total funding pool is $40 million.

Applicants must:

  • Be an incorporated Australian entity;

  • Be undertaking the proposed activities primarily in Western Australia or with a substantive link to Western Australia.
