This funding round supports research, development and commercialisation projects aimed at dramatically reducing the cost of utility-scale solar photovoltaics (PV) in Australia.
Expression of interest applications close 21 October 2025.

The ARENA - Research, Development and Commercialisation (RDC) Program - Ultra Low-Cost Solar PV R&D Funding Round program offers grants of up to $10 million. Please note that this excludes companies that are simply installing solar panels or establishing solar farms.

This funding round supports research, development and commercialisation projects aimed at dramatically reducing the cost of utility-scale solar photovoltaics (PV) in Australia.

Projects should focus on one or more of the following:

  • Stream 1: Cells and Modules
    • Increase module efficiency
    • Reduce system cost
    • Improve stability and lifespan of solar modules
  • Stream 2: Balance of Systems, Operations & Maintenance
    • Reduce deployment costs through innovative mounting, prefabrication, and automation
    • Lower operation and maintenance costs
    • Enhance system design to increase yield and market adoption

Projects must have achieved a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of at least 3 at the time of application.

Grants range between $2 million and $10 million.

A matching contribution from the applicant is required.

Entities that hold an ABN and are one of the following:

  • Australian entity incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001
  • Australian university
  • Select Australian research institution (e.g. CSIRO, ANSTO, CRCs etc.)
