Through its Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund, the Innovation Seed Fund is designed to support projects relating to either devices, diagnostics and digital or therapeutics and vaccines.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The Fund supports Western Australian innovators to develop and commercialise health and medical innovations through start-up companies.
Funding is available for activities that validate concepts, test feasibility and advance innovations toward market readiness. Project must fall within Innovation Maturity Levels (IMLs) 3 to 6.
Two funding streams are available:
- Stream 1 – Devices, Diagnostics and Digital
- Includes novel equipment, digital tools and medical implants that improve safety, access, timelines or cost-effectiveness.
- Stream 2 – Therapeutics and Vaccines
- Includes drugs, compounds and biologics that improve detection, treatment or prevention of health conditions.
The program aims to:
- Create high-value jobs
- Enhance WA’s biomedical support and manufacturing capacity
- Accelerate commercialisation of novel solutions
Stream 1: Grants up to $750,000 are available.
Stream 2: Grants up to $1.5 million are available.
The maximum project duration is 24 months.
Eligible applicants include:
- WA-based start-ups, spin-outs and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs)
- Health service providers
- Universities and medical research institutes intending to commercialisation through spin outs.
