Adrian Hunter is a Partner in the Melbourne Restructuring & Insolvency division.

With more than 30 years of experience in the insolvency and restructuring profession, Adrian is recognised for his deep technical expertise, measured and pragmatic approach, and ability to guide clients through high-stress and high-stakes financial situations.

Having worked across firms of all sizes—from small partnerships to international firms—Adrian brings a balanced commercial perspective and an empathetic mindset to every engagement.

Adrian specialises in supporting both businesses and individuals facing financial distress or requiring formal insolvency solutions. His comprehensive knowledge of the Corporations Act, combined with a commercial lens, allows him to offer practical, strategic advice that is tailored to each client’s unique circumstances. Whether delivering a voluntary administration, implementing a safe harbour strategy, managing a business liquidation, or supporting a personal insolvency matter, Adrian focuses on outcomes that are not just technically sound but also emotionally and financially restorative for his clients.

He works closely with SMEs, family-run businesses, large corporate entities, and their trusted advisers—such as accountants, legal counsel, and financiers. Adrian is known for his collaborative style, ability to troubleshoot under pressure, and dedication to maximising stakeholder outcomes. His solutions go beyond balance sheets, aiming to provide clarity, confidence, and—where possible—a fresh start for directors, owners, and families affected by financial turmoil.

Trouble-shooting is what I do day-in day-out while working to maximise outcomes for all stakeholders

Adrian’s technical skills span the full breadth of corporate and personal insolvency. His areas of specialisation include voluntary administration, receivership, liquidation, business viability reviews, asset protection, insolvent deceased estates, dispute resolution in family law contexts, and small business restructuring solutions. He also supports directors with safe harbour advisory—helping them explore turnaround options while complying with their legal duties.

Adrian is a Registered Liquidator and has led a number of successful engagements under the government’s Small Business Restructuring (SBR) regime, helping businesses avoid formal insolvency and retain control.

When Adrian isn’t helping businesses reset and recover, he turns his focus to the racetrack. He and his three (now adult) children share a passion for club motorsport. They regularly participate in track days and time trials, often racing the same car together in friendly but fiercely competitive sessions. It’s a hobby that keeps them outdoors, connected, and engaged in a shared pursuit. Adrian is also an avid online gamer, which he finds is a great way to relax and connect with friends when not out on the road or the track.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS

  • One particularly memorable experience Adrian shares involved the liquidation of a business led by a highly stressed director. In the weeks leading up to the appointment, the client had been under immense pressure and personally struggling. Several months after the process was finalised, Adrian encountered the same director by chance on the street. He was a different man—refreshed, back in business, reconnecting with his family, and full of optimism. For Adrian, this moment served as a reminder that the real value of his work is often measured in personal, not just financial, transformation.
