The program supports pre-commercial innovation, demonstration and deployment of renewable energy and low emission technologies to support Australia’s transition to a net zero economy.
Grant funding will be available across three priorities:
- Green Metals – including iron, steel, alumina and aluminium.
- Renewable Energy Technology Manufacturing – to develop technologies that address critical supply chain challenges in the clean energy transition.
- Low Carbon Liquid Fuels – including sustainable aviation fuels and renewable diesel.
Projects should aim to:
- Increase uptake of the technologies through innovation and commercialisation activities;
- Enhance Australia’s capability and capacity to produce or manufacture these technologies;
- Strengthen supply chains to enable greater use of the technologies; or
- Improve knowledge, skills and/or workforce participation related to the technologies.
There is no maximum grant amount. Funding is expected to be matched with a minimum 50% co-contribution.
Total grant funding pool allocation:
- $750 million forGreen Metals;
- $200 million (initial tranche) for Renewable Energy Technology Manufacturing; and
- $250 million for Low Carbon Liquid Fuels.
Applicants must hold an ABN and be one of the following:
- An incorporated Australian entity;
- A corporate Commonwealth entity, Commonwealth company or government business enterprise;
- A body corporate or corporation solely owned by an Australian State or Territory;
- An Australian local government or council, or an organisation representing them;
- An Australian university or other research institution; or
- An entity operating a Cooperative Research Centre (CRC).
This is an open and ongoing program until funding is exhausted. Applicants should seek endorsement from ARENA before submitting an application.
