Karla Treweek is a Director in the Ballarat Business Advisory division.
Over more than a decade at RSM, Karla has built a client base across the medical, dental, professional services and not-for-profit sectors, working with middle-market and regional SMEs as well as high net worth individuals.
Karla is known for her work with medical and dental practices, particularly practice purchases, expansions and generational ownership changes, and for her steady hand guiding families through business succession. Her focus is on giving clients clarity over their tax position and cash flow so they aren't caught out by decisions they didn't see coming, and on structuring transactions properly from the outset rather than fixing problems after the fact.

Karla has worked closely with medical professionals buying into practices, including guiding a new generation of doctors through the purchase process while supporting existing owners as they transitioned out toward retirement. This work involves balancing the interests of both incoming and outgoing owners, and getting the structuring right so the transaction works for everyone involved.
She has also advised on a large-scale expansion of a dental practice, structuring the transaction for optimal asset protection and tax efficiency, and preparing the financial projections needed to secure bank finance for the expansion.
One project Karla points to as particularly rewarding was a generational transfer of a family business. The engagement touched on several areas at once, structuring, CGT advice for the exiting owners and finance arrangements for those coming in, and required coordinating all of them to reach a workable outcome. It gave the retiring owners a clean exit and gave the next generation a genuine opportunity to take the business forward, which Karla found satisfying to work through given how many moving parts were involved.
Karla grew up on a dairy farm just outside Ballarat and now spends much of her spare time training for marathons as a long-distance runner. Before joining RSM, Karla worked at IBM.
