Danette Cheung is the Managing Partner at RSM’s Sydney office.

For over 20 years, Danette has provided exceptional corporate and international tax advice.  

A trusted leader with a people-first mindset, Danette has forged a reputation for consistently delivering exceptional value to clients across multiple industries.  

Before stepping into her current role as Office Managing Partner of our Sydney office, Danette previously served as RSM Australia’s National Head of Tax Services (2022 to 2025).  During this time, Danette played a pivotal role in the growth and transformation of the firm’s tax services division, expanding it by more than 80%. This was a real testament to her strategic focus and leadership.  

Danette is known for her ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and provide clear, commercially focused advice that supports strategic decision-making. Her approach blends technical precision, sector insight, and a people-first mindset to deliver an exceptional client experience and tailored solutions that support long-term success.

What sets Danette apart is her ability to bring people together.  Her ability to unite and inspire professionals across the country has been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and innovation at RSM.

This accolade reflects her dedication to excellence, her impact on the industry, and her role as a trailblazer for women in leadership.

Outside of her professional life, Danette enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors.  On the weekends, you’ll often find her on the golf course, unwinding and recharging. Whether it’s an early morning round or a social match with friends, golf gives her the perfect reset.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS

• Advised a major ASX-listed company on buying another ASX listed company. This included looking at the income and indirect tax effects of the deal.
• Advised a consortium of investors on the acquisition of an infrastructure maintenance business involving numerous entity types and investors located throughout Asia and Europe
• Advised a global online media company on buying and integrating several businesses. This included doing due diligence, handling transaction documents, and managing stamp duty and tax consolidation needs.
• Advised a UK-listed company on selling its Australian operations. This included checking vendor due diligence, handling outstanding tax compliance and documentation and negotiating tax warranties and indemnities.  
• She represented different clients in their dealings with tax authorities, both domestic and foreign, leading to successful outcomes for her clients.
• Advised numerous non-resident taxpayers in relation to their Australian tax obligations and aided with the preparation of associated computations and tax lodgements.
