Marie Van Blommestein is a Partner in Business Advisory based in Katanning
Marie has more than 18 years' experience supporting privately owned businesses, farming families and regional enterprises across Western Australia. Having joined RSM as a graduate in 2008, she has built her career within the firm, developing extensive expertise in taxation, business advisory, business restructuring and succession planning.
Working with middle market businesses, high-net-worth individuals and family groups across agribusiness, health, hospitality and the not-for-profit sector, Marie is recognised for helping clients navigate complex financial and structural decisions with clarity and confidence. Her work often centres on succession planning, business restructures and long-term strategic planning, where commercial outcomes need to align with family priorities and generational goals..
"Behind every set of financials is a family, a legacy or a dream. I focus on helping clients make decisions they can move forward with confidently, especially when those decisions affect both their business and their family."
Marie has a particular passion for regional Australia and the opportunities it provides. Living on a farm south of Broomehill with her husband and son, she understands first-hand the challenges and rewards of regional business ownership. This lived experience enables her to build trusted relationships with clients and provide advice that is practical, commercially sound and grounded in an understanding of regional communities.
Beyond client work, Marie is committed to strengthening collaboration across regional Western Australia. Through her leadership of RSM's WA One Zone Connection Program, she helped bring together 14 regional offices to improve communication, knowledge sharing and consistency across teams. The initiative has strengthened collaboration and enhanced the client experience across regional WA.
Marie has also been at the forefront of introducing artificial intelligence and automation into Business Advisory workflows. By identifying practical opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting, she has helped reduce manual administration and create more capacity for advisers to focus on strategic client outcomes.
Her leadership extends beyond technical expertise. Passionate about mentoring emerging professionals, particularly women building careers in regional communities, Marie is known for her collaborative leadership style and commitment to developing future leaders. She believes strong relationships, clear communication and continuous learning are fundamental to both personal and business success.
A Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce, Marie combines technical expertise with strategic thinking and a people-first approach. She regularly works alongside legal advisers, financiers and other professionals to deliver integrated solutions for clients facing significant business transitions, ensuring both commercial success and family relationships are protected.
Outside the office, Marie enjoys long-distance running, walking, playing tennis and spending time with her family on the farm. She has a genuine curiosity for lifelong learning and can just as easily talk about tax planning, artificial intelligence, sheep breeding or the history of regional Western Australia.
